The Switzer Funeral Home has a long and rich history that dates back to the early 1900s when it was founded by the Gallup family. Glenn Gallup originally started the funeral home as part of his furniture business, located across from what used to be the Chevrolet-Olds Dealership on South Main Street. In 1938, Glenn’s son, Lawrence Gallup, took over the business and eventually relocated the funeral home to its current location on Willow Street.

In 1971, Frank W. Switzer, Sr. and his wife, Vivian, purchased the L.S. Gallup Funeral Home and operated it until December 1988. Frank Sr. graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1947, and after relocating with his family from Mifflintown, PA, to Port Allegany in 1956, he worked alongside Lawrence Gallup for 15 years, handling both the funeral home and furniture business. Frank and Vivian Switzer continued to run the business until 2012-2013.

In 1972, Frank W. Switzer, Jr. graduated from Port Allegany High School and went on to graduate from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1975, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Mortuary Science from Xavier University in 1979. In December 1988, Frank Jr. and his wife, Pamela, purchased the business from Frank Sr. and Vivian. The Switzer family proudly served the Port Allegany community for over 54 years.

In 2024, Olney Foust Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC acquired the Switzer Funeral Home, continuing the tradition of compassionate care and service to families in Port Allegany and the surrounding areas. The merger allows us to further honor the legacy of the Switzer family while providing expanded services to our community.
