Winifred “Lee” Peterson
PORT ALLEGANY- Winifred “Lee” Peterson, 91, of Church St., passed away Tuesday (Feb. 7, 2017) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born May 31, 1925, in Cuba, NY, she was a daughter of Roy B. and Frances Caswell Lane. She was first married to Russell R. Severn of Olean, NY. On May 27, 1961, in Port Allegany, she married Richard K. Peterson, who predeceased her on May 15, 2007.
Mrs. Peterson graduated from Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville, NY, in 1941 following which she took medical secretarial training at Jamestown Business Institute in Jamestown, NY. She was employed as medical secretary at the Olean General Hospital, and later in the office of Dr. Norman P. Johnson of Olean. After which Mrs. Peterson was executive secretary and personnel director at HiQ Aerovox, Olean, for 12 years: personnel director at the Viko Furniture/Ethan Allen, Eldred, for 10 years. She then was co-owner and club house manager of the Indian Echo Country Club from Feb. 1984 to July 1987. Mrs. Peterson also worked 7 years in the law office of Merle G. Johnson and later with Richard S. Lindhome, retiring in 2003.
Mrs. Peterson served 2.5 years as a member of the Municipal Authority of the Port Allegany Borough. One of her hobbies was writing poetry and had several poems published.
Surviving is her stepmother, Marie D. Lane and a stepsister, Dawn Gee both of Elma, NY, and a sister-in-law, Coralou P. Carter of Topping, VA, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, and a brother, Edgar F. Lane.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Smethport.
Memorials can be made to Pleasant Valley S.P.C.A. of Olean, NY, Port Area Ambulance Service, or United Methodist Church both of Port Allegany.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
