William J. Chelgreen, Jr.
PORT ALLEGANY- William J. Chelgreen, Jr., 62, of Two Mile Rd., passed away Friday (Jan. 25, 2013) in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.
Born May 25, 1950, in Olean, NY, he was a son of William J. and Norine R. Holcomb Chelgreen. On October 26, 1974, in Port Allegany, he married Gloria J. Shelley, who survives.
Mr. Chelgreen was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1968.
He was employed by Saint-Gobain Container Co. (now Verallia) before having to retire in 2003.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with US Air Force, 391st Supply Squadron.
He was a member of the Port Allegany Alliance Church, where he had served as an elder, board member, and trustee.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Gloria, are two sons, Shaun C. (Amy) Chelgreen of Roanoke, VA, Mark A. Chelgreen of Wilkes-Barre, PA; a granddaughter, Kaia M. Chelgreen; a sister, Linda A. Thielges of Port Allegany; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2013) at 11 a.m. in the Port Allegany Alliance Church, with Rev. Dale Detweiler, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
A military service will be conducted by the Port Allegany Honor Guard immediately following the service, at the church.
Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service or the S.W. Smith Library.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
