Walter A. DeHaven, Jr.
PORT ALLEGANY- Walter A. DeHaven, Jr., 81, of Wildwood Dr., passed away Thursday (Jan. 4, 2018) in Lakeview Senior Care & Living Center, Smethport.
Born June 15, 1936, in Austin, PA, he was a son of Walter A. and Agnes Atkinson DeHaven. On Dec. 8, 1983, in Port Allegany, he married Anna P. Love (Anna Brookens), who survives.
He was a lifetime resident of the area and attended Roberts Wesleyan College, Rochester, NY.
Walter had been employed with Pittsburgh Corning Co. of Port Allegany, retiring in 1996, after 40 years of service.
Mr. DeHaven attended the Open Arms Community Church, Port Allegany. He had a passion for aviation and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He loved gardening, and attending to his yard and property. He was an avid motorcyclist who enjoyed riding his Honda Gold Wing. He enjoyed collecting model cars, old bottles, and other antique collectables.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Anna, are a son, Jeffrey L. DeHaven of Oregon; two daughters, Jody A. (Roger) Spencer of Addison, NY, Joy E. Spader of Port Allegany; 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Gary L. (Tammie) Brookens of Fayetteville, NC, Scott M. (Christa) Brookens of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; three stepdaughters, Tammy L. Brookens of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Vicki M. Brookens of Port Allegany, Beth A. (Jim) Owens of Bradford, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death his parents, two brothers, Arnold P. and Donald A. DeHaven; and a sister, Iola Pockey.
Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2018) in the Open Arms Community Church, Port Allegany, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., with Matthew Burt, pastor, and Chris and Cindy Hill, co-officiating.
