Ruth L. Chapin Mangold
PORT ALLEGANY- Ruth L. Chapin Mangold, 90, of Broad St., passed away Friday (Mar. 11, 2016) as a result from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born October 2, 1925 in Royersford, PA, she was a daughter of Clifford and Ireva Holcomb Prindle. On May 30, 1948, she married Harold E. Chapin, who died Sept. 24, 2000. On Aug. 30, 2014, in Port Allegany, she married Donald Mangold, who survives.
She had worked for North Penn Gas Co. as a bookkeeper and secretary, and also with Port Allegany Plaining Mill as a secretary, and later as co-owner of the former Chapin’s Market, retiring in 1976. She later worked for G.L. Carlson, Inc. of Turtlepoint.
Ruth was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1943.
Mrs. Mangold was a member of the United Methodist Church., Port Allegany, where she was a member of the Methodist Women and Anna Oral Circle. She was a former Sunday school teacher with the First Baptist Church, Port Allegany; member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW, Post 6391, Port Allegany, former member and Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Westeria Lodge, Port Allegany; member of the Red Hat Ladies, Glamorous Gatorettes chapter, Port Allegany; and the Port Allegany Senior Center.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Donald, are two daughters, Jeanne C. (John) Buchanan of Port Allegany, and Cathy R. (David) Causer of Turtlepoint; 7 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; two stepsons, James (Jill) Mangold of Zamba, Africa, and Sandy Mangold of Las Vegas,; 6 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, late husband Harold, and two sisters, Lorna J. Meacham and Beverly R. Popowski.
Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. Monday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Mar. 15, 2016) in the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, with Rev. Randall Headley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
