PORT ALLEGANY-Roy R. Kio, 81, of Green Hollow Rd., passed away Tuesday (Mar. 5, 2013) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
Born February 19, 1932, in Warren, PA, he was a son of Roy E. and Bertha Moore Kio. On July 21, 1951, in Arlington, VA, he married Georgianna Gurney, who died Jan. 20, 2010.
Mr. Kio had worked for Pittsburgh Corning Co. and later with North Penn Gas Co. for 30 years, before his retirement.
He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.  Roy was Sergeant of the Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Washington, DC, during his active service.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 460, American Legion, Post 258, all of Port Allegany, and former member of Star Hose Fire Department, and Odd Fellows, both of Port Allegany.
Surviving are a son, Roy G. “Smiley” (Deborah) Kio of Port Allegany; three daughters, Deborah K, (Marty) Campbell, Sandra L. (Dan) Kinney, and Annette M. (Gerry Wojtanik) Ford all of Port Allegany; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a brother, Basil E. (Jane) Kio of Boonton, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Georgianna, two brothers, Seth B. Kio and Clifford L. Kio; and four sisters, Mary Culver, Joyce Corah, Oaka Rees, and Carole Jean Teats.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Mar. 9, 2013) with Rev. Joseph Beckley, pastor of the Port Allegany Alliance Church, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
A military service will be conducted by the Port Allegany Honor Guard immediately following the funeral at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the Veteran’s Memorial Home, Port Allegany.
