Roxie A. Carlson
TURTLEPOINT- Roxie A. Carlson, 84, of Champlin Hill Rd., passed away Tuesday (Dec. 6, 2016) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born August 18, 1932, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of George L. and Cora Holmes Carlson. She was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, class of 1951. She graduated as an LPN from the Jamestown Hospital School of Nursing.
Roxie had worked in the Olean General Hospital, as a nurse, retiring in 1992, with over 37 years of service. She also worked in the family business, G.L. Carlson, Inc, of Turtlepoint.
Ms. Carlson was a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Port Allegany, where she was a former church council member. She was also a past Worthy Matron and 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, with the former Myrtle Chapter of Port Allegany and most recently with the Keystone Chapter #2 of Duke Center, PA.
Surviving are two brothers, George A. (Virginia) Carlson and Dr. James W. Carlson both of Turtlepoint; four sisters, Rena C. Hitchcock of Albuquerque, NM, Anna C. Moore and Alice C. Tolan both of Horseheads, NY, Ruth C. Grimes of Turtlepoint; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Elton F. Carlson, who died June 20, 1970.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Friday (Dec. 9, 2016) in the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Port Allegany, with Rev. Joann Piatko, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.
