Robert Albin SCHLICHTING, 90, of Whitesville, NY, formerly of Callicoon, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, just shy of his 91st birthday.
Born November 8, 1930, in Mineola, he was the son of Ernest W. and Charlotte Edwards Schlichting. On December 17, 1955, he married the former Alice Annable, who survives. Surviving besides his wife, Alice, are: a sister, Nancy Schlichting Everett; four children, James Schlichting, Gay Schlichting Thistle, Kim Schlichting Mandelik, and Bill Schlichting; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many loving friends and their children who always called him “Uncle Josh.”
A graduate of Mineola High School and SUNY Farmingdale, he also attended Hofstra and Brooklyn Tech. He retired from a career at the State of New York Department of Transportation as a civil engineer. Bob dabbled in farming as a hobby for most of his life and at one point was raising a herd of over 100 Hereford cattle. He was famous for his clam chowder (Manhattan style) and the best Old Fashioneds in the world. He was host to many infamous parties on their farm in Callicoon. He enjoyed hunting season and swimming. Bob loved life and made the best of it.
A memorial gathering will be held at Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Cremation, Crowell Chapel, 296 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY on Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. A reception will follow at the family home.
