Robert M. Dunn, Jr.
EAST SMETHPORT- Robert M. Dunn, Jr., 73, of Route 6, passed away Sunday (July 4, 2021) in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.
Born September 14, 1947, in Kane, PA, he was a son of Robert M. and Pauline Palmer Dunn, Sr. On May 16, 1970, in Smethport, he married Nadine K. Cole, who died May 10, 1990. On August 10, 1991, in Smethport, he married Michele D. Dann, who survives.
Robert was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Smethport Area High School, class of 1965.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the US Navy. He was stationed at the Pentagon from 1965-1968.
Robert was employed with Quaker State Refinery and International Wax both of Farmers Valley, before his retirement. He also owned and operated Smethport Disposal Co. before his retirement. Following his retirement, he became co-owner & operator of the most recent Smethport Disposal Co., serving the local community.
He was a member of the Smethport Volunteer Fire Dept. since 1972, where he served as treasurer and captain of the Fire Police. He was a life member of the Smethport Jaycees, member of the Smethport & Crosby Legions, and served on the Solid Waste Authority, Big 30 Committee, Boy Scouts Advancement, and McKean County Democratic Committee.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Michele, are four sons, Jeff (Jeanette) Dunn of Crosby, Matthew (Lindy) Galloway of York, PA, Clayton (Aimee) Galloway of Inberness, IL, Jeffrey (Cindy) Shostak of Hoffman Estates, IL; three daughters, Jamie (Mike) McCarrell of Erie, PA, Kori (Chuck) Galloway Bunting of Cyclone, and Candace (Don) Shostak Stoner of Elizabethtown, PA; 22 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William (Sandy) Dunn of Columbia, MD, Edward “Speedy” Dunn of Clermont, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Nadine.
Friends will be received from 12- 2 p.m. Thursday (July 8, 2021) in the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Max Simms, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Smethport.
A military service will be held immediately following the funeral at the Hilltop Baptist Church, by the Crosby Legion Honor Guard.
Memorials can be made to Smethport Fire Dept., Crosby Legion, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
