Robert L. Armstrong
SMETHPORT- Robert L. Armstrong, 96, formerly of Clermont, PA passed away Monday (Feb. 19, 2018) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
Born August 9, 1921, in Ceres, PA, he was a son of Foster J. and Gertrude Cleghorn Armstrong. On Nov. 13, 1942, in Shinglehouse, he married Rena B. Canfield, who died Jan. 4, 2006.
Mr. Armstrong was a self-employed mechanic who owned and operated Armstrong Wheel Alignment, St. Mary's, PA, before his retirement.
He was a member of the Bradford, PA congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Surviving are four sons, Robert L. (Diane) Armstrong, Jr. of Kane, PA, Richard P. (Jane) Armstrong of Lantz Corners, Terry L. (Jenny) Armstrong of Mt. Jewett, and James A. Armstrong of West Virginia; four daughters, Donna D. Gillette of Emporium, Betty M. (Bill) Freer of Brockport, Juanita D. (Rob) Eaton of Smethport, Helen D. Hart of Hummelstown, PA; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Rena, six brothers, John, Warren, Lawrence, James Albert, and Jay Armstrong, Joseph Smith; seven sisters, Genevieve Armstrong, Dorothy Grossman, Abbey Troupe, Barbara Lyden, Lois Wakefield, Eliza Moore, and Constance Ingalls.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
