Robert C. ACKERMAN

Robert C. “Bob” ACKERMAN, 79, of Wellsville, NY, died Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in Jones Memorial Hospital after a brief non-Covid related illness.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 2, 2022 in Yorks Corners Cemetery, Willing.  Military Rites will be accorded by members of Morrison B. Hayes American Legion Post #702.

A gathering to celebrate the lives of Bob and Delores Ackerman will be held at the Willing Town Hall on Saturday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.

Born April 23, 1942, in Wellsville, he was the son of Manley C. and Marjorie Reynolds Ackerman.  On December 31, 1962, in Wellsville, he married the former Delores D. Amidon, who predeceased him on June 12, 2017.  Robert attended five years at the Yorks Corners one room school, graduated from Wellsville Central School, and attended college.  A U.S. Army Veteran, he served honorably from 1962-1965, Corporal Missile Group, Vicenza, Italy.  His career included General Railway Signal, Rochester, Dynamic Components, Hornell, M&W Tire Co., Wellsville, and lastly a licensed N.Y.S. Professional Land Surveyor for Ackerman Land Surveying Co. Bob was a former member of the N.Y.S Association of Professional Land Surveyors and the Southwestern Professional Land Surveyor Society.  He served as Town of Willing Councilman, sexton of Yorks Corners Cemetery, coach of pee-wee and midget football and minor little league baseball, and president of the Genesee Headwaters Citizens Association, Inc.  He was a member of the Wellsville Jaycees, Wellsville County Club, Thelma Rogers Historical Society, Morrison B. Hayes American Legion Post #702, Frank B. Church VFW Post #2530, NRA, and Clerbrook Golf & RV Resort, Clermont, FL.  Golf became his sport of choice after retirement, achieving four holes-in-one.

Surviving are:  a daughter, Dianna Ackerman of Wellsville;  three sons, Robert S. Ackerman of Olean, Thomas (Dawn Hughes) Ackerman of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and David Ackerman of Gilbert, AZ;  six grandchildren; Arianna, Robert Jr., Jillian, Jared, Elyse, and Mitchell;  a sister, Gail Ackerman of Wellsville;  two brothers-in-law, David Amidon and John (Carolyn) Amidon;  nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard "Dick" Moulton and wife, Ann;  a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Ackerman;  and a sister-in-law Barbara Amidon.
