Raymond W. Hoberg Jr., 74, of 5471 Cemetery Hill Road died on Monday June 7, 2010 at Jones memorial Hospital in Wellsville with his loving wife at his side. He was born February 5, 1936 in Huntington, WV the son of the late Raymond W. and Stella (Kowalski) Hoberg Sr. On July 12, 1975 in Belmont he married Judy A. Hollister who survives.

Ray was raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area and moved to Belmont in September of 1974. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korea and Viet Nam era from 1954 to 1961. He was employed as CAD draftsman for Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville; retiring in 2000. He was an active member of the Belmont United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and president of the United Methodist Men's Breakfast Club. His former memberships included the Belmont Volunteer Fire Department, the Amity Rescue Squad; where he served as an EMT, the Herbert De Long Post 808 American Legion; where he served as Chaplain, the Belmont Rotary Club and the Belmont Conservation Club. He was a former Scoutmaster and volunteer for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

He currently was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was a transporter and Meals on Wheels driver for the Allegany County Office For Aging. He was a SAREP instructor who shared his love of fishing at various children's camps for over 20 years. He was a member of the WNY Emmaus Community and attended the Enchanted Mountain Gathering in Olean. Ray was a devoted 29 year friend and follower of Bill W. and was instrumental in establishing the "Bridging the Gap" program" in area correctional facilities. Ray had a great love of reading, fishing, sailing, canoeing and leather crafts. He was a master gardener and enjoyed woodworking.

Surviving in addition to his wife Judy are, five children, Raymond W. (Ruth) Hoberg III of Ohio, Karen (Walt) Lauderdale of California, Terri (Steven) Maxwell of Kingsport, TN, Darci Hoberg and her fiancé Jerome Ladabouche both of Wellsville and PVT Joseph Hoberg, U.S. Army National Guard, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, 7 grandchildren, Odessa Smith, Jason and Eric Hoberg, Sabrina, Krista and Bryce Marvin and Ryan Maxwell and three great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Timothy Hoberg.

Friends are invited to a memorial service and celebration of Ray's life on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Belmont United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Childress presiding. At his request Ray's body was donated to the University of Buffalo and there will be no prior visitation. Memorial donations are suggested to the Belmont United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, Camp DayDreams or the Allegany County Office For Aging.
