P. Jane Johnston
PORT ALLEGANY- P. Jane Johnston, 92, formerly of N. Brooklynside Rd., passed away Friday (Nov. 4, 2011) in Lakeview Senior Care & Living Center, Smethport, after a lengthy illness.
Born October 8, 1919, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of Charles and Lena Cabisca Black. On Mar. 16, 1957, in Port Allegany, she married Gordon E. Johnston, who passed away Apr. 17, 2010.
Mrs. Johnston was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, Class of 1938.
She was employed by the North Penn Gas Co. as a steno-grapher/secretary for 16 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Allegany, where she was the oldest living member. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, former Myrtle Chapter, Port Allegany, where she was a past matron. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several local bridge clubs.
Surviving are a son, Eric P. (Lisa) Johnston of Port Allegany; a daughter, Jan C. Birchall of Indian Trail, NC; two granddaughters, Carli Johnston of Port Allegany, Joanne Nimec of Elmira, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gordon, a granddaughter, Debbie Nimec, and two brothers, Sheridan and Clifford Black.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (Nov. 7, 2011) in the First Presbyterian Church, Port Allegany, with Rev. Garen Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Smethport.
