Phyllis M. Amell
PORT ALLEGANY-Phyllis M. Amell, 94, of N. Brooklynside Rd., passed away Friday (Sept. 28, 2018) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
Born May 8, 1924, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of Don and Lula S. Smith Chandler. On Aug. 24, 1962, in Shinglehouse, she married Howard L. Amell, who died Apr. 4, 2013.
Mrs. Amell was a self-employed hair dresser for many years before her retirement.
Phyllis was a lifetime resident of the area and attended the Turtlepoint Evangelical Church. She was also a life member of the Star Hose Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons, Gilbert E. Amell and Keith A. Amell both of Port Allegany; two daughters, Merita L. Greenleaf of Orlando, FL, and Kathy L. Amell of Eldred; a stepdaughter, Jackie (Dave) Kaples of Virginia; several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce M. Seeley of Port Allegany; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard, a son, Lawrence A. Amell, two brothers, Daryl and Lawrence Chandler; and four sisters, Donna Minard, Christine Hardes, Beatrice Chandler, and Lois Smith.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 3, 2018) with Rev. Anthony Edgell, pastor of the Turtlepoint Evangelical Church, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
