Patience E. GATES

Patience E. GATES, 74, of Wellsville, NY, formerly of Scio, died Sunday, October 24, 2021 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, surrounded by her family.

She was born January 8, 1947, in Wellsville.  On October 3, 1964, in Scio, she married David A. Straight, who predeceased her on September 5, 1984.  On March 28, 1987, in Scio, she married Donald V. Gates, who predeceased her on August 23, 2006.  Patty was employed as a candlemaker by Northern Lights and was an avid crafter.  The world has lost a beloved mother, sister, grandma, and friend.

Surviving are:  four daughters, Cherrie Hubert, Tina Straight, Carol (Paul) Low, and Tammy Straight, all of Wellsville;  eight step-children, Dan Gates, Wes Gates, Aaron Gates, Deanna White, Cathy Kaiser, Julie Taylor, Trina Collins, and Dharla Gates;  several grandchildren and great-grandchildren;  three siblings, Wetoma Merriam of Belfast, Darwin Darrel Ost of FL, Rosetta Ost of Wellsville;  nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her mother, Oma Hand Ost;  a step-son, Eric Gates;  and two sisters, Mary Stocum and infant Judy Ost.

Friends may call at Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Cremation, Crowell Chapel, 296 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY on Friday, October 29, 2021 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 1:00 PM.  Rev. Carl Kemp will officiate.  Burial will be in Knights Creek Cemetery, Scio.
