Wellsville, NY - Mildred P. Burdge, a long time resident of Pine Street, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 22, 1922, the oldest daughter of Reynold and Bertha Conable, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. She married Raymond R. Burdge on December 23, 1941who predeceased her on November 22, 1976.

She graduated from Genesee High School in 1940.After marriage, Mrs. Burdge lived most of her life at 68 Pine Street, the same house where she brought her first son home from the hospital and raised her family. She had worked for Ed Frederick at his store cooking and baking. Even though she never drove, she loved to travel to visit friends and family as much as possible. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed needlework (including embroidery and quilting) and was an avid reader. She will be lovingly remembered for her gentle sprit and good humor. The family is grateful to the staff of Wellsville Manor Care Center for their compassionate and outstanding care.

Survivors include: 3 daughters, Rebecca Anthony of Lakeland, FL., Diana (Curtis) Allen of Andover and Linda (Kenneth) Stanzel of Rochester; a son, Terry (Betty) Burdge of Rochester; 2 grandchildren, Teri Stanton and Cory Burdge; 10 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Betty Calder of Ocala, FL., Ruth (Bill) Tressler of Apollo, PA., and Rita Conable of Twin Falls, ID., and several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Besides her husband she was predeceased by: A son Larry R. Burdge, a brother Richard, a sister Bess Cowburn and a dear friend Lee Russell of Hammondsport.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville from 7-9 pm. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 am in the Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Eastlack presiding. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the residents Council of the Wellsville Manor Care Center, 4192A Bolivar Road, Wellsville, NY. 14895; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
