Wellsville, NY - Michael R. Yurcic, 65, of 157 N. Highland Avenue died on Saturday, November, 6, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness. He was born June 22, 1945 in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late Nicholas and Maxine (McJunkin) Yurcic. On May 5, 2000 he married Sherry Stillman Wade who survives.

Mike was a 1963 graduate of Wellsville High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving with the Military Police during the Vietnam War from 1966-1967. When he returned to the United States he was stationed at Oakland, California and graduated from military school in 1968. He was a volunteer fireman in Wellsville and Willing for 30 years. He was first employed as a police officer for the Wellsville Police Department; he then worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years, retiring in 2001, and has been a general contractor in the Wellsville area for several years. He was a life member of the Morrison Hayes American Legion Post 702 and the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW. He loved the beach on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where he and his wife have a second home.

Surviving in addition to his wife are, four children from previous marriages; Eric Yurcic of Wellsville, Michelle Mess of Canaseraga, Jennifer Peeter of Elba and Nicole Heath of Georgia, three step daughters, Heather Beckering of Wellsville, Amy Bliss of Belmont and Cathy Buckley of Andover, several grandchildren, one great grandchild, one step grandchild on the way and his father and mother in law, Frank and Rosemary Davis of Wellsville.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will follow visitation at 2:00 pm in the funeral hone with Rev. George Herrick presiding. Burial, with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
