Merrill H. BURDICK

Merrill H. BURDICK, 86, of Westfield, PA, died Sunday, November 4, 2012 in Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro, PA. Born March 29, 1926, in Belmont, NY, he was the son of Glenn M. and Ima Stone Burdick. A World War II Pacific Theatre Veteran, he served honorably with the US Navy from 1944 - 1946. On March 29, 1946, in Potter Brook, PA, he married the former Louise E. Knight, who predeceased him on January 3, 2006. He was employed by NYS Natural Gas, PennDOT as an assistant superintendent, and the Northern Tier Children's Home in Harrison Valley. He and his wife owned and operated the Long Horn Restaurant in Westfield for 20 years, Burdick's Subs and Pizza in Westfield and Addison, NY, and M&L Supply Co. He was a member of the Westfield Wesleyan Church and a life member of Howard S. Lines VFW Post #6753 in Knoxville, PA. He served as a Democratic State Committeeman and on the Tioga County Board of Assistance. Surviving are: five children, Dorothy (Russell) Outman of Westfield, PA, Rev. Duane (Fern) Burdick of Harrison Valley, Kelly (Mitzi) Burdick of Sabinsville, PA, Kent (Tammy) Burdick of Knoxville, PA, and Kevin (Gina) Burdick of Westfield; 11 grandchildren, Darcy (Tracy) Atwell, Darlene (Gene) Mead, Mark (Kristin) Burdick, Sabrina Burdick, Travis Burdick, Mindy (Dee) Doddles, Alicia Ruskai, Shaunta (Jason) Vahey, Karrissa (Bruce) Stahli, Bryce Burdick, and Torie Burdick; 17 great-grandchildren, Kacie (Matt) Burton, Brandon (Ashleigh) Mead, Connor Burdick, Markenna Burdick, Kayla Burdick, Makyla Burdick, Lexi Burdick, Haley Ruskai, Michael Ruskai, Eli Vahey, Emmah Jeanne Stahli, Aubrey Marie Stahli, Ashtyn Burdick, Jordan Doddles, Trinity Doddles, Allison Burdick, and Brenton Burdick; four great-great-grandchildren, Kaylin Burton, Kyleigh Burton, Logan Mead, and Gavin Mead; a sister, Phyllis Hancock of Westfield; a sister-in-law, Lois Wheaton of Westfield; a brother-in-law, Franklin Sonny Welch of Westfield; nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by three grandchildren. Friends may call Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday in the Potter Brook Peoples Church, 62 Rte. 49, Westfield, PA. His son, Rev. Duane Burdick will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Potter Brook. Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Tioga County Honor Guard.
