Merle A. “Pete” Haskins
TURTLEPOINT- Merle A. “Pete” Haskins, 72, of Annin Creek, passed away Friday (July 16, 2021) in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.
Born February 14, 1949, in Coudersport, he was a son of Richard and Mildred Easton Haskins.  On November 29, 1980, in Eldred, he married M. Diane Barlet, who survives.
He was a veteran of Viet Nam, having served with the US Army.
Pete was an over the road truck driver for many years, and achieved a truck driver’s highest award of one million miles accident free.
He was a member of the American Legion, Bucktail Post, Smethport.
He was an avid hunter.
Surviving in addition to his wife, M. Diane, are a son, Shane M. (Krystal) Haskins of Olean, NY; two daughters, Julie (Paul) Rader of Limestone, NY, Melissa D. Dubeck of Portville, NY; 12 grandchildren: Tod Chaffee of Bradford, Serah (Ryan) Kalcher of Chardon, OH, Melody L. and Kaden M. Haskins of Clermont, PA, Victoria, Joseph, and Trinity Dubeck,  Aiden and Connor Mitchell all of Portville, NY, Katarina & Andrew Rader, and Paul Rader, II, all of Limestone, NY; two great grandchildren, Kai and Silas Chaffee; a brother, Douglas (Angie) Love of Eldred; a sister, Ellen Urbatch of Horseheads, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, Scott D. and Tod A. Chaffee, and James A. Haskins; and two brothers, Ivan and Douglas Haskins.
A celebration of life will be held from 12 – 2 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 7, 2021) in the Turtlepoint Evangelical Church, where a memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. with Rev. Anthony Edgell, pastor, officiating.
A military service will be conducted immediately following the memorial service, by the Bucktail Honor Guard, Smethport..
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
