Mary S. SOWERS, 92, of Coudersport, PA, formerly of Harrison Township, Potter County and York, PA, died Thursday, June 30, 2016 in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA.
Born August 15, 1923, in Elizabethtown, PA, she was the daughter of Paul A. and Ada Mae Brandt Schwenk.
A graduate of William Penn High School, she was employed by General Telephone Co. for 28 years.
In 1974, Mary and her husband Lewis formed Sowers Farms, Inc. to develop several subdivisions and to construct homes and recreational cabins in Potter County, PA.
Mary was a member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church in York and also a member of the Harrison Valley Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. She was also a member of the York City Firemen's Auxiliary and supportive of the work of Public Citizen, Sierra Club, and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security.
Surviving are: nieces and nephews; and good friends, Tim and Linda Pritchard, Harold and Dixie Reisinger, Calvin and Mabel Horning, and Patsy Lamphier. Special thanks are extended to her caregivers at Cole Manor for their fine care and kindness to Mary. She was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth L. Sowers, who was killed in World War II; her second husband, Lewis T. Sowers; a son Kenneth G. Sowers; and a sister, Lorna B. Young.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 28, 2016 in the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Harrison Valley, PA. The Rev. Timothy H. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery, York, PA.
