Mary Lou Dann
EAST SMETHPORT- Mary Lou Dann, 89, of Route 6 and formerly of Catlin Ave., Port Allegany, passed away Thursday (Mar. 25, 2021) in her home, with family by her side.
Born September 17, 1931, in Keating Township, PA, she was a daughter of Hugh and Geneva Owens Abbey. On Aug. 5, 1950, in Port Allegany, she married Roland L. “Cy” Dann, who died Feb. 13, 2005. They were married 54 years.
Mary Lou was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1949.
After high school, she did fashion modeling prior to her marriage. Once married, she was a devoted wife and mother. After her children were grown, she worked outside the home. She was employed with Charles Cole Mem. Hospital as a medical records secretary. She also served on the Board of Directors at Charles Cole Hospital. She later became coordinator for the Asbestos Health Program, Port Allegany, started by Pittsburgh Corning Co. until her retirement.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and Borough Council both of Port Allegany, Eastern Star, and the Library Bridge Club. She enjoyed her family, painting & crafting, and loved visiting the Casino.
Surviving is a daughter, Michele D. (Robert) Dunn of East Smethport; a son, Jeffery R. (Maredith) Dann of Palatine, IL; nine grandchildren: Matthew (Lindy) Galloway, Jeff (Jeanette) Dunn, Kori Galloway (Chuck) Bunting, Jamie (Mike) McCarrell, Clayton (Aimee) Galloway, Jeffrey (Cindy) Shostak, Candace Shostak (Don) Stoner, Kevin Dann, and Ellie (Kyle) Dann; 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roland “Cy”, two brothers, Preston and William Abbey; and a sister, June Howard.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday (Mar. 29, 2021) in the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Max Simms, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
