Martha L. Klein
PORT ALLEGANY- Martha L. Klein, 94, of Catlin Ave., passed away Tuesday (Dec. 8, 2015) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born April 3, 1921, in Bradford, PA, she was a daughter of Eric R. and Gerda S. Olson Stromberg. On Aug. 18, 1940, in Wrights, PA, she married Glenn P. Klein, who died Oct. 26, 2009. They were married 69 years.
Martha was a longtime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1938.
Mrs. Klein had volunteered as a gray lady in the Port Allegany Community Hospital, had been a retail clerk with the former Buckheit Clothing Store, a waitress at the former Sugar Bowl, all of Port Allegany.
She was a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Port Allegany, where she was an organist and choir director for 25 years. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women.
Martha also enjoyed and was an avid reader.
Surviving are two sons, Allen C. (Norma) Klein and Bruce R. (Jessica) Klein both of Port Allegany; two daughters, Joyce E. Boyd of Cummings, Georgia, and Julie A. (Tim) Baker of Port Allegany; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Lucille) Stromberg of Cromwell, CT, a sister, Audrey (Robert) Burdick of Paughkeepsie, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Carl and Paul Stromberg, and a sister, Hazel Capilupo.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 12, 2015) in Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Port Allegany, with Rev. Joann Piatko, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to the Gethsemane Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or a charity of the donor’s choice..
