Mabel A. Boorum
PORT ALLEGANY- Mabel A. Boorum, 94, of Route 155, passed away Saturday (Nov. 24, 2012) at her home, with her family by her side.
Born Aug. 13, 1918, in Liberty Township, PA, she was a daughter of G. Fred and Birdie M. Balliet Mantz. On Nov. 16. 1944, in Port Allegany, she married Gerald C. Boorum, who died Aug. 24, 1993.
Mrs. Boorum worked for Sylvania Co. formerly of Emporium, and later as a waitress at the former Barnwood Inn of Port Allegany.
She was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, Class of 1937.
She was a member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church of Port Allegany. She had taught Sunday school in the former Evangelical United Brethren Church of Port Allegany for many years.
Surviving are four sons, James G. (Linda) Boorum, Dean E. (Becky) Boorum both of Port Allegany, John F. (Diane) Boorum of Lehighton, PA, and Thomas G. Boorum of Old Town, FL; a daughter, Faye D. (Jack) Zuidema of Alachua, FL; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Bowen of Gainesville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerald, two grandsons, Scott and Brian Boorum; sisters, Leona “Jimmy” Bryan and Millie Coppersmith; and two brothers, Lyle and Howard Mantz.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Monday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Dale Post, pastor of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, and Rev. H.D. Youngblood, Jr., co-officiating. Burial will be in Portage Valley Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to the Chestnut Street Baptist Church.
