Leah N. Lewis May
PORT ALLEGANY- Leah N. Lewis May, 93, of Laurel Lane, passed away Thursday (Jan. 25, 2018) in Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, NY.
Born August 17, 1924, in Wrights, PA, she was a daughter of Milford L. and Pearl Robbins Nelson. On Oct. 20, 1947, in Erie, PA, she married Lawrence O. Lewis, who died May 11, 2002. In May 2005, in Port Allegany, PA, she married Joseph May, who died Feb. 14, 2017.
Leah was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1942.
She was employed with North Penn Gas Co. of Port Allegany, and later with the Port Allegany School District as secretary for both the superintendent, and school board for many years, before retiring in 1984.
Leah was a member of the Port Allegany Senior Center.
She enjoyed sewing and doing seamstress work for many local residents. In recent years, she loved crocheting.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara J. Major and a son, James L. Lewis both of Port Allegany; two grandchildren, Mick (Jodee) Caulkins of Port Allegany, and Krystal Wilcox of Gettysburg, PA; four great-grandchildren: Gage. Shaylee, and Brier Caulkins, and Scarlett Willcox.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, George M. Nelson, Ralph L. Nelson; and three sisters, Olive A. Nelson, Alice R. Nelson, and Edith L. Nelson.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Sunday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (Jan. 29, 2018) with Dan Helenek and Brad Wilson, co-officiating. Burial will be in Portage Valley Cemetery, Wrights.
