Leah W. Kio
PORT ALLEGANY- Leah R. Kio, 88, of Kio Hollow Rd., passed away Saturday (Oct. 12, 2024) in her home, with family by her side.
Born July 26, 1936, n Coudersport, she was a daughter of Arthur S. and Esther Schoonover Whitney. On Dec. 4, 1971, in Coudersport, she married Philip M. Kio, who died 1/12/2024. They were married 52 years.
Leah was a graduate of Coudersport High School, class of 1954. She also graduated from Cedarville College, class of 1969, with a bachelor’s degree in business.
She had worked for two banks, First National Bank of Coudersport, and the First National Bank of Olean, and most recent with the former North Penn Gas Co. of Port Allegany, before her retirement.
Leah was a member of the Sartwell Creek Union Church, Port Allegany, member of the Women of the Moose, Lodge 2188, Port Allegany, and the Coudersport Business & Professional Women. She also volunteered at the Potter County Historical Society.
She enjoyed her family, genealogy, stamp collecting, reading, & playing board games.
Surviving are three stepsons, Thomas W. (Carlene) Kio of Roulette, Corwin “Corky” (Hope) Kio of Port Allegany, Dennis R. (Lou) Kio of Lufkin, TX; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Anderson of Prarie DuChien, WI; special niece, Patty Kaple and special nephew, Jeff McConnell who were her caregivers; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents husband Philip, two brothers, Deforest and Erwin Whitney; and four sisters, Norma Varney, Alice Work, Florence Beach and Vera McConnel; and a stepson, Philip M. Kio, Jr.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m -12 noon Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2024) in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 12 noon with Rev. Allen Long, pastor of the Sartwell Creek Union Church, Burtville, officiating. Burial will be in Sartwell Creek Cemetery, Burtville.
Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
