Larry K. Mead
PORT ALLEGANY- Larry K. Mead, 80, 0f E. Vine St., passed away Friday (Oct. 19, 2018) in his home, of an apparent heart attack.
Born April 21, 1938, in Sunderlinville, PA, he was a son of Clair N. and Alma Churchill Mead. On Dec. 28, 1957, in Port Allegany, he married Joyce Kaziska, who died Aug. 26, 2009.
Mr. Mead was a longtime resident of the area and was a 20-year veteran, having served with the US Army, retiring from the military with the rank of first sergeant. He served during the Viet Nam war.
Larry was employed with Pierce Glass Co. of Port Allegany for 24 years, working in both the hot and cold end, retiring in 2001.
He was a member of the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics, & Allied Workers, Local 54 & 57. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 460, Port Allegany, AARP, and the Little Red Diner Round Table. Larry also enjoyed playing Bingo at local fire departments.
Surviving are a son, Fredrick A. (Barbara) Mead of Yulee, FL; a granddaughter, Alexandria Publicover-Mead, and a great-grandson, Tilian F. Jones; a brother, Emmet L. Mead of Turtlepoint; a sister, Clare E. “Kitty” (Gerald) Patton of Port Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joyce, and five brothers: Jack, Hervey, Charles, Billy and Gerald Mead; and sister, Nina Barber.
Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2018) in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Anthony Edgell, pastor of the Turtlepoint Evangelical Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
A military service will be conducted immediately following the service by the Port Allegany Honor Guard.
