Kathryn I. VanNette
PORT ALLEGANY- Kathryn I. VanNette, 80, formerly of Church St., passed away Monday (Jan. 4, 2021) in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, with her daughter by her side.
Born June 25, 1940, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of Gordon S. and Signe Erickson Edgar. On July 12, 1967, in Port Allegany, she married Charles Richard VanNette, who died May 1, 1995.
Kathryn was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Smethport Area High School, class of 1958. She was employed with Bell Telephone Co. in Bradford, and later with Arnot Child Care, in Port Allegany, before her retirement.
She enjoyed her counted cross-stitch and caring for her cats, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, Charles R. (Jessica) VanNette of Erie, PA; two daughters, Jennifer K. (Scott) Achelpohl of South Daytona Beach, FL, Valerie L. (Andy) Seybert of Port Allegany; ten grandchildren: Nathan, Austin, Ian and Rian Garner, Zac Robbins, Lauren and Shaun VanNette, Linnea and Izzy VanNette, and Myles Seybert; two great-grandchildren, Signe and Marilyn VanNette; a brother, Ted (Mary) Edgar of Smethport; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Richard, a brother, Bill Edgar, and a sister, Anne Defibaugh.
Due to the pandemic circumstances, a private visitation will be held at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday (Jan. 8, 2021) in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Port Allegany, with Rev. J.T. Madison, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Port Allegany, officiating. Masks and social distancing are required.
Memorials can be made to the McKean County SPCA, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or PA Special Olympics.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
