John M. Hammond
GENESEE- John M. Hammond, 80, of Brooklyn Rd., passed away Monday (7/31/2017) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born February 20, 1937, in Troupsburg, NY, he was a son of Ephraim F. and Margarite Burton Hammond.
John was a longtime resident of the area coming from Williamsport, PA.
He was a graduate of Williamsport Area Community College, with an associate degree in accounting.
Mr. Hammond was employed as a computer programmer for Avco-Textron Co., Williamsport, PA, before his retirement.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey L. Hammond, and James N. (Cheryl) Hammond both of Williamsport; a daughter, Penny S. Hammond of Hughesville, PA; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred O. (Dorothy) Hammond of Port Allegany, James L. Hammond of Port Matilda, PA, Donald E. (Linda) Hammond of Williamsport; three sisters, Shirley J. (Fred) Redmond, Sarah M. Hammond and Joyce A. Moore all of Port Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jay L. Hammond; two brothers, Franklin and Robert Hammond; and a sister, Reita A. Hart.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 12, 2017) in the social hall of the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, with Rev. Ben Zimmerman, pastor, officiating.
Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church Mem. Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
