Belmont, NY - John E. Dunford Sr. of Noble Street passed away at home on Wednesday, November 10, 2010.He was born on June 14, 1939 to Irven E. and Esther Mitchell Dunford in Rochester, MN. On September 24, 1960 in Belmont he married Margie Hollister who survives him.

John graduated from Rochester Senior High School in 1957 and joined the US Navy serving until 1961. He was a machinist for Dresser Rand in Wellsville for 36 years and retired in 2001. John was very involved in his community; at the time of death he was the commander of the American Legion Post 808 in Belmont, an active member of the Scio Rod and Gun Club, a former 40 year member of the Belmont Fire Department and a member of the former Belmont Conservation Club. John was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church and had served as trustee for the church. Along with his wife of 50 years John traveled extensively including visiting all 50 states. He loved to hunt, fish, read books and was a member of the NRA.

Surviving besides his wife: a son John (Yame) Dunford Jr. of Powhatan, VA.; a daughter, Sherry (Phil) MacLaughlin of Fillmore; a grandson, that he and Margie raised, Robert John (Tabitha) Bliven; 2 granddaughters, Cassandra (Tim) Jarrell and Samantha (David) VilledaLopez; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Donald Kobi and Gary Kobi; 2 sisters, Carol Michaleson and Madelon Krough; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother and a sister.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday, November 14, 2010, from 1 to 3 pm at the Belmont United Methodist Church. John's Funeral Service will take place at 3 pm in the church following visitation with Rev. Ronald Sellers presiding. Memorials in John's name my be made to; Amity Rescue Squad; or the American Legion Post 808 in Belmont; or the Scio Rod and Gun Club; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
