PORT ALLEGANY- James R. Carlson, 72, passed away on April 8, 2016, in Sebring, Florida following a lengthy illness.
Born February 23, 1944, in Olean, New York, Jim was the son of the late Philip L. Carlson, Sr. and Phyllis Gillett Card. On October 14, 1992, he married Liana Revero Alomia, who survives.
Jim was a 1962 graduate of Port Allegany High School and a 1964 graduate of Lincoln College in Illinois. Following his college graduation, Jim served four years in the US Navy. He was then employed with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier until his retirement.
Jim was an avid golfer, bowler and fan of stock and NASCAR races. He collected Oldsmobile 442 vehicles and anything associated with that model. Jim owned and showed a 1983 Hurst Oldsmobile that was awarded “Best in Class” at many events throughout the eastern United States.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by four half-brothers, Gill Rennecker of Henderson, Nevada, Philip Carlson, Mark Carlson, Perry Carlson, all of Port Allegany; three half-sisters, Diane Herger of New Brighton, Pennsylvania, Candace Card Pavese of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, and Katherine Card Pool of Henderson, Nevada; five nieces; seven nephews; two grand-nephews and three grand-nieces.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, James and Mabel Carlson of Port Allegany.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 8, 2016) in the Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany, with Rev. Randall Headley, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, officiating.
