Jack C. McLaughlin
PORT ALLEGANY- Jack C. McLaughlin, 83, of Broad St. passed away Friday (Sept. 2, 2011) in Lakeview Senior Care & Living Center, Smethport.
Born November 3, 1927, in Port Allegany, he was a son of John F. and Elizabeth White McLaughlin. On July 15, 1947, in Port Allegany, he married Doris Meyers, who survives.
Mr. McLaughlin had worked for Bob Isherwood, a jeweler in Port Allegany, as a watchmaker, and later many years as a city postal carrier for the US Postal Service, Port Allegany, before his retirement.
He was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1945.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Coast Guard.
He was a member of the VFW Post 6391, and American Legion Frank Burt Post 258, both of Port Allegany, where he was a past Commander of the Legion; a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 460, Port Allegany; a former Meals on Wheels volunteer, American Cancer driver and former EMT with Port Allegany Area Ambulance.
Surviving in addition to his wife Doris, are a son, Jack C. McLaughlin, Jr. of Timonium, MD; a daughter, Debbie L. (Stan) VanGorder of New Bethlehem, PA; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen “June” Baker of Port Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James R. McLaughlin, and a sister, Martha Kelley.
There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 6, 2011) in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Port Allegany, with Rev. James Campbell, as celebrant.
The Port Allegany Honor Guard will conduct a military service immediately following the funeral at the church.
Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service or the St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church memorial fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
