Jack L. Culver
PORT ALLEGANY-Jack L. Culver, 87, of Combs Creek Rd., passed away Thursday (Jan. 5, 2017) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
Born Sept. 11, 1929, in Coudersport, he was a son of Robert W. and Iva Abbott Culver. On Dec. 26, 1951, he married D. Jean Falconer, who survives. They were married 65 years.
Jack was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1947.
He was a Korean War veteran, having served with 31st Division, US Army.
Mr. Culver worked 24 years as an appliance repairman for Meacham Hardware, which he co-owned with his wife Jean, and Culver’s True Value Hardware. He retired from Johnston Tools in 1994.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Allegany, where he was an elder, F.& A.M. Liberty Lodge 505, Arnold Chapter 254, and Coudersport Consistory. He was a member of the American Legion Post 258 of Port Allegany, a charter member of North Central Forest Landowner’s Association, and a former member of the Smethport Country Club.
Jack loved all sorts of sports: hunting, fishing, and golf. He enjoyed sharing life experiences by telling stories to anyone who loved to listen.
Surviving in addition to his wife Jean, are two sons, Steven (Maryhelen) Culver of Wynanskill, NY, Andrew (Suzanne) Culver of West Winfield, NY; two daughters, Dr. Bonnie Culver of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Susan (Larry) Collins of Glendale, AZ; 4 granddaughters, and a great-grandson; a brother, Leroy (Felicia) Culver; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ralph Culver.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday (Jan. 28, 2017) at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Port Allegany, with Rev. Garen Smith, officiating.
A masonic service will be held during the church service by Liberty Lodge 505, Port Allegany.
