Harold Lincoln GAVITT

August 17, 1927 — May 2, 2022

Harold Lincoln GAVITT, 94, of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Wellsville, NY and Bath, NY, died Monday, May 2, 2022.

Born August 17, 1927, in Wellsville, he was the son of Eli Lincoln and Mary Emily Sheehan Gavitt.  A graduate of Wellsville High School, he was a World War II and Korean War Veteran, serving honorably with the U.S. Navy from October 1945 – August 1946 and the U.S. Army from September 1950 – 1952.   He was employed as a heavy equipment operator.  Harold was a member of Steuben Lodge #112, F. & A.M. in Bath, NY.  He enjoyed bowling and square dancing.  On July 6, 1989, he married the former Martha Jo Williams, who predeceased him on August 13, 2019.

Surviving are: three sons, James (Lisa) Gavitt of Spring Branch, TX, Todd (Rhonda) Gavitt of Arabi, GA, and Roy Gavitt of Stoneville, NC; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Hurd and Thelma Weaver; and a brother, Paul Gavitt.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 18, 2022 in Stannards Cemetery, Stannards, NY.  Military Rites will be accorded by members of Morrison Hayes American Legion Post #702.

Martha Jo GAVITT, 90, died Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in San Antonio, TX.  Born May 16, 1929, in Gonzalez, TX, she was the daughter of Elmer and Opal Williams.  She was raised and attended school in San Antonio.  Martha taught at Alamo Heights Jr. School and enjoyed her retirement.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Laura E. Wittlif and Jack H. Williams.  Martha was survived by her spouse, Harold Gavitt;  step-sons, James Gavitt (Lisa), Todd Gavitt (Rhonda) and Roy Gavitt; nephews, nieces, and cousins.
