Glennis Ells RICKETTS

Glennis Ells Ricketts, at the amazing age of 101, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Manor Hills Assisted Living. She was born May 26, 1923, in Alfred Station, NY, the daughter of the late Cleon and Nina (Palmiter) Ells. On September 17, 1949, she married the love of her life, Leslie W. Ricketts, who predeceased her in 1965. 

 

“Glenny” was raised in Alfred Station, and was a 1942 graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School, the first class of the consolidated school systems. She was first employed by Acme Electric in Cuba, after taking time away from the workforce to be a homemaker, she was employed by Alfred Ag-Tech in the Central Dining Hall. Outside of work she learned ceramics, rode and drove horses, and even wrote some poetry. She did quite a bit of carving and even held a couple of shows at the Alfred Ag Tech campus. She was an avid country dancer and was adept at square dancing, line dancing, and clogging. She had a lovely singing voice, remembered almost all the lyrics, and sang for her fellow residents. She had been a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Stars, in Belmont, NY, the M. Eva Williams chapter. Glennis lived a full life in her 101 years. She celebrated her 100thbirthday in her retirement home, Manor Hills. She will be greatly missed.

 

She is survived by: a loving daughter, Carol Ricketts Schelin, 74, of Tappan & Wellsville; loving granddaughter, Leslie Ricketts (Clark) Heffernan nee Schelin; as well as several nieces, nephews, and neighbors. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was predeceased by: three sons, Howard, Leslie “Babe”, and Calvin Ricketts; son-in-law, Dr. Robert C. Schelin, who passed three years ago on February 6, 2022; and two brothers, Lewis Ells and Carl Ells.

 

Friends are invited to call on, Monday, February 17, 2025, from 11 am to 1 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home of Belmont, 17 Schuyler Street. A memorial service will follow at 1:15 pm in the Belmont United Methodist Church, 7 Park Circle, with Rev. Steven Crowell presiding with assistance from Rev. Kevin Palmiter of Fellowship of the Way Nile Community Church. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
