Gladys B. COOVER

Gladys B. "Smokey" COOVER, 80, of Germania, PA, formerly of Dillsburg, went home to the Lord on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Mary May, where she had resided since May of 2012. She was married for 38 years to Russell D. Coover of Dillsburg, who survives. Born May 26, 1932 in Norristown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Elizabeth Hellyer Brelsford. They moved to New Jersey, farming and selling produce at a roadside stand. They did their field work with horses and she drove a horse-drawn wagon to take produce to market. Gladys was a member of the 4-H Club as a child and later helped with the program when her children were members. She was also a member of the local Farm Women's Club where she picked up her nickname, Smokey. She lived on various farms all of her life, raising dairy cows, dairy goats, horses, chickens, and just about anything with four legs or feathers. She raised and bred Jack Russell Terriers and loved to read, crochet, and knit. She always liked to watch the rodeos and John Wayne movies on TV. Gladys enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers both outside and inside, where she had her violets. Surviving besides her husband are: a son, Larry (Judy) Van Lieu of Mechanicsburg; two daughters, Mary (Jeff) May of Germania and Pamela (Ronnie) Kline of Glen Rock, PA; a daughter-in-law, Louann Van Lieu Lawrence of New Oxford, PA; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Jane (Nick) Biache of Ringoes, NJ; two brothers, Harry (Julie) Brelsford of Troy, PA and Ted (Linda) Brelsford of East Aurora, NY; an aunt, Pauline Hall of NJ; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Phillip Van Lieu. Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Dillsburg, PA to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Potter County Hospice, c/o Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA 16915.
