Gerald R. “Jerry” Hobbs, 92, of Port Allegany, PA, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025 in Lakeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Smethport.
Born September 29, 1932, in Follansbee, WV, he was the son of Albert P. and Hazel L. Hall Hobbs. He was married to Laura Marie Falk, who predeceased him on February 18, 2021. They were married for 63 years. A 1951 graduate of Port Allegany High School, he served as senior class president and was on the football and track teams for four years. He served honorably with the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War. Jerry was employed as an accountant by North Penn Gas Company for 37 years, retiring in 1992. He served with the Port Allegany Honor Guard, life member of the American Legion and life member and past commander of the VFW. Jerry was a member Loyal Order of Moose #460 in Port Allegany and was a Past Governor. An Eagle Scout, he was a scoutmaster for ten years. He was a past master of Liberty Lodge #505, F. & A.M. in Port Allegany, a member of Zem Zem Shrine and Legion of Honor of Erie, and a past member of the Coudersport Consistory. Jerry served for four years on the Port Allegany boro council with two years as vice president, volunteer ambulance driver for ten years, and was a three-gallon donor with the American Red Cross. He was a longtime member of the Vikings Club on Chautauqua Lake near Jamestown, NY. An outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, boater, golfer, and snowmobiler. A Harley rider, he was a member of the God's Country and Legion Riders motorcycle clubs. Even with all of his activities, his first priority was family.
Surviving are: a daughter; Candy (Edward) Leff of Pittsburgh; three sons; Scott Hobbs of Port Allegany, Chuck Hobbs of Millport, NY, and Randy (Lisa) Hobbs of Astor, FL; eight grandchildren, Bobby, Courtney, Meghan, Tyler, Ashley, Harley, Amanda, and Lindsey; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Marie, he was predeceased by two brothers, Albert P. Hobbs, Jr. and Norman E. Hobbs; and two sisters, Mary Frances Smith and Dorothy Niles.
Friends may call at Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Crematory, Switzer Chapel, 77 Willow Street, Port Allegany, PA 16743 on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 12:00 PM. Rev. Michael Culver will officiate. Military Rites will be accorded by the Port Allegany Honor Guard. A luncheon will follow the service at the Port Allegany Veterans Memorial Home. A Masonic Service will be held at 9:30 AM before the visitation. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
