Evelyn M. Childs
ELDRED- Evelyn M. Childs, 91, of Shelby Lane, passed away Saturday (May 19, 2012)in the Olean General Hospital.
Born June 30, 1920, in Jamestown, NY, she was a daughter of John A. and Anna Olson Hedberg. On Oct. 11, 1940, in Portville, NY she married Gilbert M. Childs, Sr., who died March 1999.
She was a lifetime resident of the area and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eldred, and American Association of Retired Persons.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Ann Childs of Eldred; a son, Gilbert M. (Caren) Childs, Jr. of Richburg, NY; 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Lake of Rochester, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, Lawrence, Arthur, Kenneth, Oscar, and Carl Hedberg; and two sisters, Hilda Vahl and Helen Brown.
Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday (May 22, 2012) in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dewayne Thorson officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
Memorials can be made to the Eldred Ambulance or S.W. Smith Library.
