Eugene V. “Blinkie” Sherwood
PORT ALLEGANY- Eugene V. “Blinkie” Sherwood, 89, of Coleman Mills Rd., passed away Friday (Dec. 30, 2016) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born November 19, 1927, in Port Allegany, he was a son of Victor J. and Stella M. Eastwood Sherwood. On Apr. 9, 1947, in Port Allegany, he married Elizabeth Z. “Betty” Hoffman, who died June 14, 2003. They were married 56 years.
Eugene was a longtime resident of the area and attended Roulette High School.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Navy.
Mr. Sherwood was employed with Ball-Incon Co. of Port Allegany, retiring after 35 years of service.
Eugene was an avid woodworker and enjoyed mowing his lawn.
Surviving are two sons, Robert E. Sherwood and Steven W. (Marlena) Sherwood both of Port Allegany; three daughters, Betty Gene Springer of Keating Summit, Vivian L. (Clayton) Lamont and Lori Ann (Dan) Roys both of Port Allegany; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elizabeth, infant daughter Darla, four half-brothers, Clifford, Robert, Milford, and Claude Freer; and two half-sisters, Vivian Sherwood and Genevieve Fillmore.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to the McKean County SPCA.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
