Ethlyn L. Ford
PORT ALLEGANY- Ethlyn L. Ford, 98, of Broad St., passed away Sunday (April 30, 2017) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born June 6, 1918, in Myrtle, PA, she was a daughter of George D. and Theo McNeil Kester. On Aug. 13, 1943, in Port Allegany, she married Clair L. Hawver, who died Nov. 16, 1982. On Sept. 6, 1997, in Smethport, she married Almon F. Ford, Sr., who died May 16, 2005.
Ethlyn was a lifetime resident of the area and attended the Sartwell Creek Union Church, Burtville. She also attended the Annin Creek School.
Mrs. Ford had worked for the Doll Factory, Johnson’s Bakery, Oakleaf Diner, and Burgart’s Grocery Store all formerly of Port Allegany, Sylvania Co. (now GTE) formerly of Emporium, and the Market Basket of Ridgway.
She enjoyed quilting and spending time at the Port Senior Center.
Surviving are a son, Clair L. (Karen) Hawver of Turtlepoint; two daughters, Evelyn J. (Jim) Nolan of Covina, CA, and Carolyn L. Hawver of Port Allegany; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephew.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Clair and Almon, two daughters, Clara A. Mally and Rebecca A. Hawver; a brother, Arthur Kester; and four sisters, Irene J. VanSickles, Marion O. Tarbox, Helen M. Foust, and Genevieve M. Haynes.
Friends will be received from 2-4 an 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Switzer Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (May 4, 2017) with Rev. Michael Culver, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Port Allegany, officiating. Burial will be in Annin Creek Cemetery, Turtlepoint.
Memorials can be made to the Port Senior Center or Annin Creek Cemetery.
