Elizabeth J. "Betty" HOWARD

Elizabeth J. "Betty" HOWARD, 91, of Coudersport, PA, died Saturday, August 2, 2014 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, PA. Born May 18, 1923, in Charleston Township, PA, she was the daughter of Lawrence John and Helen Viola Hughes Adams. A graduate of Charleston High School and Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing, she was employed by Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro as the head of the maternity unit. She furthered her nursing education at the Philadelphia School of Nursing. On August 19, 1950, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Wellsboro, PA, she married Victor Howard, who predeceased her on April 10, 2005. Betty was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Coudersport, where she served on the Vestry and as president of the Altar Guild and the Episcopal Church Women. She was also a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Wellsboro Chapter. Surviving are: a daughter, Kaaron Ruza of Yeadon, PA; two sons, Victor L. (Pamela) Howard of Harrisburg, PA and William D. "Billy" (Barb) Howard of Coudersport; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Molly, Gabrielle, Connor, Dustin, Darren, and Dalton; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Virginia M. Adams. Friends may call at Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and on Friday, August 8, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church, Coudersport from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, with Funeral Services at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Janis Yskamp and the Rev. Frank Mickle will co-officiate. Burial will be Wellsboro Cemetery.
