Edith M. Howard
PORT ALLEGANY- Edith M. Howard, 88, of Sartwell Creek Rd., passed away Friday (July 15, 2016) in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
Born January 12, 1928, in Alma, NY, she was a daughter of William A. and Lola James Howden. She married Harold L. Howard on Sept. 22, 1945.
Edith graduated from Wellsville High School, class of 1944.
She was employed by Potter County Board of Assistance as a caseworker, before her retirement.
Mrs. Howard was a member of the Sartwell Creek Union Church of Burtville, past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Eulalia Chapter 148, Coudersport. She was a former member of the local, state, and national grange.
Surviving are three sons, H. Ray (Janet) Howard of Roulette, Christian J. (Carol) Howard and Rodney W. (Judy) Howard both of Port Allegany; a daughter, Tamara E. Lorenzo of New Stanton, PA; seven grandchildren: Corinne, Ross, & Chase Howard, Nathaniel and Nicholas Howard, Angelina Lorenzo and Cara Jo Dawson; a great-grandson, Maxon Howard; a sister, Helen H. Young of Belmont, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Timothy Howard, a sister, Gertrude Dickson, and two brothers, William and James Howden.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (July 19, 2016) with Rev. LaVerne Howard and Rev. Allen Long, pastors of the Sartwell Creek Union Church, co-officiating. Burial will be in Sartwell Creek Cemetery.
An Eastern Star service will be conducted in the funeral home, Monday at 7:30 p.m by Eulalia Chapter 148, Coudersport.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sartwell Creek Union Church, Port Allegany Senior Center, or S.W. Smith Library.
