TURTLEPOINT- Dr. Grant M. Winston, 66, of Houston, TX, formerly of Turtlepoint, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday (Dec. 22, 2021) in the LBJ Hospital, Houston, TX.

Born July 5, 1955, in Port Allegany, he was a son of Gordon A. and Neva Griswold Winston.

Grant was a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, class of 1973, and Penn. State University, Behrend, Erie, PA, with a BA degree, in 1984. He graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, IA, Nov. 1993, and Texas Chiropractic College, Houston, TX, Dec. 1997.

He practiced chiropractic medicine in Meadville, PA, Ft. Worth, TX, and Houston, TX. Most recently, he was a professor with the Harris County Community College.

He loved his country, his dog and cats, and teaching at the community college.

He was a veteran of Vietnam, having served with the US Marines, in 1973-77, 1977-81, and 1985-1989. He was a staff sergeant, serving as an Embassy Guard in Helsinki, Finland, an infantry unit leader, and last, a drill instructor, before leaving the service.

Surviving are two sisters, Barbara M. (Gary) Caulkins and Cindy I. Winston, both of Port Allegany; and two nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at a later time & place to be announced.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
