Dorothy R. Hersh
PORT ALLEGANY- Dorothy R. Hersh, 88, of Sherwood Hollow, passed away Wednesday (Apr. 18. 2018) in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Born December 17, 1929, in Holsopple, PA, she was a daughter of Paul E. and Eva V. Eash Shelter. On Feb. 15, 1951, in Cumberland, MD, she married Harold R. Wiley, who died Aug. 10, 1957. On August 26, 1960, in Cumberland, MD, she married Albert J. Hersh, who died July 25, 1969.
Dorothy was a graduate of Johnstown Mennonite School, class of 1948.
She had worked in Ann’s Sports Wear Co., Holsopple, and with Kresge’s Department Store, Johnstown, PA.
Mrs. Hersh was a longtime resident of the area, coming from Johnstown, PA.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, and was a former choir member of the United Brethren Church of Port Allegany. She enjoyed embroiding, reading, and puzzles.
Surviving are four sons, Robert H. Wiley of Landsdale, PA, Ronald G. (June) Wiley of Port Allegany, Richard D. Hersh of Bally, PA, Albert J. Hersh, Jr. of Huntingdon, PA; two daughters, Gloria J. (Tom) Vicic, Sr. of Port Allegany, Lauretta E. (William Watson) Hersh of Salamanca, NY; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Elsie M. Michael and Berena F. Verba both of Holsopple, PA, Rita P. (Harold) Alwine of Soap Hollow, PA, and Rose E. (Donald) Zimmerman of Hooversville, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, Harold and Albert, a son, Harold R. Wiley, a daughter, Eva R. Hersh, and a brother, Paul E. Shelter.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday (Apr. 22, 2018), with Rev. Randy Headley, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church or S.W. Smith Library.
