Dirk D. Kio

PORT ALLEGANY- Dirk D. Kio, 73, of Two Mile Rd., passed away Wednesday (May 15, 2024) in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.

Born October 5, 1950 in Port Allegany, he was a son of Clifford L. and Gertrude Milgate Kio. On April 1, 1972, in Port Allegany, he married Crystal M. Walker, who survives. They were married 52 years.

Dirk was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1968.

He was employed with Laborer Union Local 603 of Erie Pa, and worked with IA Construction for 36 years, and retired with 40 years of service in 2008.

Dirk was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed playing horseshoes and hunting.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Crystal “Cris”, is a daughter, Melissa M. (Phillip Hinkle) Kio of Fayetteville, PA; a son, David S. (Emily) Kio of Smethport; four grandchildren: Jake Vicic, Hoyt Kio, Vic Kio, Alicia Henson; two brothers, Rex Kio of Columbia, PA, Track (Leslie) Kio of Port Allegany; two sisters, Gwen (John) Como of Moorisville, NC. Cori (Karl Grupp) Kio of Port Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mark Kio, who died 7/24/79, and a sister-in-law, Celia Kio.

Friends will be received from 4-8 pm. Saturday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday (May 19, 2024) with Dallas Kio, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
