David J. MIESS, 86, of Scio, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, NY following a lengthy illness.
Born July 7, 1930, in Wellsville, he was the son of Harry and Leonora Flisher Miess.
On March 23, 1967, he married the former Gloria Leonard, who survives.
A graduate of Belmont Central School, he served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 -- 1953.
He was formerly employed by Genesee Valley Nurseries and Community Lanes and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1989.
David played baseball for the Belmont and Friendship town teams and coached Babe Ruth Baseball in Belmont for several years. He also enjoyed bowling and golf.
Surviving besides his wife, Gloria, are: a son, David (Nickia Lane) Miess of Andover; two daughters, Diane (William Perham) Miess of Wellsville and Karen (Scott) Herdman of Angelica; six grandchildren, Makaila Miess, Kaiden Miess, Jordan Perham, Savannah Perham, Wyatt Herdman, and Madison Herdman; two stepgrandchildren, Hayvin Sheahen and Kamee Sheahen; a brother, Richard (Helen) Miess of Belmont; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth.
Honoring David's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to a celebration of David's life 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 1, 2017 in the Knights Creek Evangelical Church, Scio. The Rev. Carl Kemp will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made to the Scio Memorial Library, Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Scio Fire Department or any charity of the donor's choice.
