David “Ray” Merriman
PORT ALLEGANY- David “Ray” Merriman, 87, of Two Mile Rd., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday (Jun. 21, 2021) in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Born January 13, 1934, in Jerome, PA, he was a son of Rev. Russell R. and Clara Wright Merriman. On November 11, 1960, in Corry, PA, he married Mary Ann Dingfelder, who survives. They were married 60 years.
David was a resident of the area for 26 years, coming from Corry, PA. He was a graduate of the Cory High School, class of 1952.
He was employed with the Pennsylvania Fish Commission as superintendent of the Oswayo Fish Culture Station, Oswayo, PA, for many years, before his retirement.
He was a former member of the Nazarene Church of Bradford, and most recently the McCrea Brook Wesleyan Church, Eldred.
David was an avid fisherman & hunter. He loved to golf, spend time with his family, but most of all he loved his Lord. He served many positions in various churches he belonged to, including Sunday school superintendent, song leader, trustee, and soloist.
Surviving are three sons, David R. (Debi) Merriman, Jr. of Stephenson, VA, Gary A. (Jennifer) Merriman of Mooresville, NC, Jeffrey L. Merriman of Corning, NY; two daughters, Darlene S. (Bob) Davis of Bradford, Susan L. (Stacey) Amidon of Oswayo, PA; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grand-children; a sister, Ruthie (Noel) Galindo of Larkspur, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, C. Russell Merriman, and a sister, D. Jean Johnson.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. with Rev. Terri Niver of the Bradford Wesleyan Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rathbone Cemetery, Oswayo, PA.
A military service will be conducted immediately following the funeral service, by the Bradford American Legion Honor Guard, at the funeral home.
