Col. Leo B. SHINN, USMC Retired, 95, of Ulysses, PA, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015 in his home. Born October 20, 1919, in Beech Creek, KY, he was the son of William Warner and Elizabeth "Bessie" Blaine Shinn. On October 9, 1952, at Fort Benning, GA, he married the former Muriel E. Tillotson, who predeceased him on April 8, 2013. In the 1930's, he served as a medic with the Civilian Conservation Corps building Fort Knox. A World War II and Korean War Veteran, Col. Shinn served honorably with the US Marine Corps from 1938 - 1967. In World War II, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Gold Star in lieu of second award. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Kentucky and a benefactor member of the NRA. Surviving are: a son, Leo (Lisa) Shinn, Jr. of Jeannette, PA; a daughter, Lee Anne (Michael) Guryn of Ulysses; a daughter-in-law, Laura Shinn of Port Charlotte, FL; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Osie Nell Van Santen of Salem, OR; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, William F. Shinn on March 31, 2013; and a sister, Winona Nevada Brumley. Friends may call at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA on Saturday, September 5, 2015 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 3:00 PM. The Rev. Jason K. Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded by members of the United States Marine Corps and the Potter County Honor Guard.
