Belvidere, NY - Chester L. Baker (Don), age 87, of Belmont passed away on Wednesday December 30, 2015 after an extended illness at the Hart Comfort House in Wellsville. He was born on March 6, 1928, He was the son of Henry and Molly Mae Robbins Baker.
Chester was a lifelong resident of Belmont (Belvidere) and had wintered in Avon Park, Florida for the last 23 years. He attended the Belvidere grade school and was a 1947 graduate of the Belmont Central High School. Along with running his small dairy farm, he was employed for 10 years at the Borden dairy plant in Belmont and worked 30 plus years at the Friendship Dairies, retiring in 1990. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Chester enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting camping and other activities that included spending time with his much loved family and friends.
He is survived by his lifelong sole mate Dawn Williams, three sons, Brian D. (Barbara) Baker, Donald R. (Beth) Baker and David L. (Ellen) Baker; two daughters, Diana J. Craig and Judy A. (Michael) Ward; three stepsons, Richard B. (Alice) Powell, Stanley S. (Kimberly) Green, Nicholas Williams and one step son in law, Alan Brewer; Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, 6 great great; two sisters, Georgia Lincoln and Donna Abbott as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Chester was predeceased by a daughter Joyce D. Brewer, a son in law
James L. Craig; three brothers, Victor Whitney Sr., Kenneth L. Whitney and Leonard Baker.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday, January 3, 2016, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Belmont. The Funeral will be held on Monday at 11 am in the Funeral Home with Pastor David Ford presiding. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Hart Comfort House at 141 East State Street in Wellsville, New York.
