Charles D. Bonawitz
PORT ALLEGANY- Charles D. Bonawitz, 76, of N. Main St., passed away Wednesday (Dec. 9, 2015) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born September 17, 1939, in Coudersport, he was a son of Harold E. and Lucille Gorrell Bonawitz. On June 25, 1966, in Keating Summit, PA, he married Bonnie L. Lewis, who survives.
He was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1956.
Charles was employed by Saint-Gobain Container Co., Port Allegany, for 27 years, before his retirement. He later worked as a crossing guard for the Port Allegany Borough, for 14 years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, of Port Allegany, life member of the Port Allegany Fire Department, and former member of the McKean County Fire Police Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Bonnie, are a son, Stephen C. (Jami) Bonawitz of Turtlepoint; a daughter, Paula M. (Barry) Daugherty of Port Allegany, two grandchildren; a sister, Betty Jows of Milton, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter, Amanda Bonawitz.
Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. Friday (Dec. 18, 2015) in the United Methodist Church, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Randall Headley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Port Allegany Fire Department or the Port Area Ambulance Service.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
