Carroll David GOODLIFF, 96, of Belmont, NY, died Thursday, June 6, 2024 in his home.  


Born November 24, 1927, in Nile, he was the son of Homer Grant and Blanche Rose Swartout Goodliff.  He was married to the former Helen Elizabeth Reynolds, who predeceased him on February 1, 2021.  He attended the one room schoolhouse in Nile and later Friendship Central School.  He was employed as a heavy equipment operator by the Allegany County Highway Department.  A United States Marine Corps Veteran, he served honorably from 1952 -- 1954.  After his military service, he resumed his employment for Allegany County for a total of 37 years, with several years as a county highway foreman.  He was a member of American Legion Post No. 808 and received a Certificate of Continuous Membership for 50 years in March 2014.  He was the oldest member of Post No. 808 at the time of his death.  Carroll will be long remembered for his love of family, socializing with friends, his wicked sense of humor, his love of hunting and fishing, and his strong work ethic.

   

Surviving are: a daughter, Debra (Donovan) Rahr; two beloved grandsons, Jason (Nena) Rahr and Jeffrey (Lindsey) Rahr; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brenden, David, and Zoey; a great-great grandson, Mason; a great-great granddaughter, Stella; a brother, LeRoy (Charlene) Goodliff of Wellsville; nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Goodliff; and two sisters, Helen Warner and Marjorie M. Carney.  

 

Services will be private.  Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, where Military Rites will be accorded.
